High School Essay Contest

                    A $1000.00 National Garden Club Scholarship will be awarded to the National Winner. 
If the winner is an under classman, the $1000 Scholarship will be held by NGC, Inc., without accrued interest, until such time that the student enters college.  At that time, the money will be forwarded to the Financial Aid Officer of the college that the student will enter. 
 The second place winner will receive $100. 
The contest must be sponsored by: a single garden club, group of member clubs, councils or districts or a State Garden Club. 
All entries become the property of National Garden clubs, Inc.

ELIGIBILITY:
The Contest is open to all students in the 9th thur 12th grades
LENGTH:
Between 600-700 words.  The entry will be penalized if the essay does not conform to the required length.  ALL WORDS ARE COUNNTED.
All entries must be typed and titled.  Students should write the essay so it is suitable to be published in the NGC publication,The National Gardener.
RULES:
               Cover sheet should have:      
               Essay Title
               Students’s Name
                Address, City, Population of city
                Name of sponsoring Garden club,      
                Number of members in sponsoring club
                Name of sponsoring club’s president and
                Address, phone number, date current dues were paid by
                club, district, state federation.
                (If 18 years of age or older, you have to be a dues paying club member.)
     You must win State and Regional 1st place awards to be sent on to NGC Inc.

             Practicality of proposal  – 10
             Originality                       – 15
             Subject matter well organized/clarity of presention – 15
 Composition                                            – 25
             Vocabulary                     – 15
             Conformance to length – 10
 Manuscript                                              – 10
             Wallet size photo,(opyional) name, address, phone number,
             school attending, grade  list of activities and sponsoring club
                                                     – 5
              Neatness, legibility      – 5
              (a plastic folder keeps the manuscript neat)
             Totalpoints                                 100

AWARDS STATE:    1st – $10    2nd – $7   3rd – $5
DEADLINE:     Essay must be judged on a District level.  Winner to be sent to State Youth Activites Chairman No later then November 30.
Must be sent to Regional Chairman by January 1, 2015
After state judging, winners of Essay Contest will be sent on to South Central Region and National Garden Clubs, Inc. contest.
