Breaking News for Important Dates for NGC & OGC by April Pratt, President, OGC

For those of you who needs extensions of their Consultant requirements, please see below.  There is an extension form you must complete and forward to the NGC Accrediting Chair.  I don’t remember anyone saying they had to complete this year, but just in case, please forward to your members.  Thanks!

April Pratt

President, Oklahoma Garden Clubs, Inc.

Attention NGC State Presidents

As NGC School’s Policy Chairman, I have been asked to send you this information.  This information will be in the next issue of Keeping in Touch.  The State School’s Chairmen Have receive this information, however not all States have Schools chairmen but have Students and Consultants who might like to know how to get extensions if needed.

Extensions for Environmental School, Gardening School, Landscape Design School Students and Consultants

Extensions for students and consultants who planned on attending an Environmental School, Gardening School, Landscape Design School or Refresher which has been canceled due to the Corona Virus to complete their fourth course to comply with the seven-year time restriction or refresh with a Good Standing Date of 2020 can apply to their State School Chairman using the appropriate Extension Form (9-2019). (The Extension form is available on the NGC Website, Schools, Forms/zip download.) The appropriate State School’s Chairman will sign and forward to the appropriate NGC Accrediting Chairman, and/or to the NGC  ES, GS, or LDS School Chairman who can then approve the one-year Extension request.  The NGC School Chairman will notify the appropriate State School Chairmen and Rebecka Flowers, NGC School Secretary.  The State School Chairman will notify the Student or Consultant of the granted extension and maintain record of the extension. (See page 17 in Schools Handbook) Students and Consultants unsure of Good Standing Date in a given School should contact their appropriate State School Chairman.

Your NGC School Chairmen recommend downloading the “Guide for Students and Consultants” on the NGC Website, Schools page (Scroll to bottom of the page).  It is filled with a lot information for are Students and Consultants.

Please forward to students and Consultants in your state.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

June 01, 2020                 A Virtual Flower Show; Gay Austin, President, National Garden Clubs, Inc.

Attached is a link to Flower Show Schedule for National Garden Clubs, Inc.’s Virtual Flower Show, “Perfect Vision”.

We had planned on a Petite Horticulture Specialty Flower Show at the NGC annual meeting in Milwaukee. When that convention was canceled, so was the flower show. We also realize many other flower shows were canceled or have been postponed. NGC President Gay Austin assembled a committee to look at the possibilities of a virtual flower show, with winners posted on the NGC website and social media accounts. With that charge, we developed the attached schedule and entry forms.

We realize members have great horticulture specimens to show off and/or are itching to get their creative juices flowing for designs or artistic crafts. This flower show is for them!

Please share this with your state’s garden club members and encourage them to enter. Entry information is in this schedule and on the NGC website (where the entry forms are located.) Note: an exhibitor may only enter one specimen in each horticulture section, one exhibit in the design division, and an entry in each botanical arts section. (For a total of 10 different entries in the 10 different sections.)

It should be noted this is not an official NGC Flower Show, as the Handbook for Flower Shows doesn’t provide for non-face-to-face judging. Likewise, most flower shows have specific horticulture classes instead of sections that will be subdivided once entries are submitted. There are no Top Exhibitor Awards offered. Therefore, this virtual flower show will not be eligible for exhibiting and judging credit.

If you or anyone has a question, feel free to contact me at drobson@illinois.edu.
